Dr Yucel Cimtay

Postdoctoral Research Associate

Yucel is a researcher within the Institute for Digital Technologies with a strong expertise in image and signal processing, machine learning and deep learning technologies.

Dr Yucel Cimtay has recently completed several projects in Turkey related to the defense industry. 

Academic background

Yucel received a BSc degree in Electrical Engineering from Bilkent University, Turkey, in 2008. He completed a PhD in Electrical Engineering in Ankara University, Turkey, in 2018.

Prior to his appointment at Loughborough University London, he worked at a reputable defence company in Turkey for 6 years, as a Researcher.

Current research and collaborations

Yucel’s current research focuses on affective computing to develop a multimodal real-time human emotion recognition system by using various machine learning and deep learning models and architectures.

Outside of academia Yucel has been a licensed footballer, playing for an amateur team. He is also interested in music and plays several musical instruments.
