Prof. Cheryl Potgieter

Prof. Cheryl Potgieter is based at Durban University of Technology where she is the Director and of Gender Justice, Health and Human Development and also Head of the Research and Doctoral Leadership Academy (RADLA).  

 

Previous posts include Deputy Vice Chancellor and Head of College of Humanities at the University of KwaZulu- Natal ( UKZN) as well as Dean of Research at UKZN.  

 

She was also a Professor at the University of Pretoria and has held positions at the University of the Western Cape and the Human Sciences Research Council (HSRC). Currently she is a visiting Professor (Non- Residential) at University College London Institute for Risk and Disaster Reduction. She has also served as a commissioner on a Government Commission Investigating Political Killings in Kwazulu Natal.  

 

She has a doctorate in Psychology and has published and supervised widely in the areas of psychology, gender, sexuality and higher education and all her work is underpinned by a commitment to social justice. She has written policy, specifically gender related for government departments, and has consulted for both the private sector and NGOs.  She is currently the Africa Head for the global Gender Responsive Resilience and Intersectionality in Policy and Practice (GRRIPP)Project.
