What happens on the day?

We've provided essential information about the running order and what is expected of you on the day, so that you know what to expect from your graduation ceremony.

Whether your ceremony is taking place in the morning or in the afternoon, there are several steps you will need to take in order to cross the stage and collect your certificate:

  • Register your attendance
  • Collect your gown
  • Have your photo taken by the official photographer (optional)
  • Find your seat in plenty of time before the ceremony begins
  • To register your attendance and gain access to the gowns, photography and the Theatre, you must enter Here East via the Press Centre. Access will not be available via the campus.

    Ceremony details and timings

    Ceremony one - 10.30am

    From 8.30am
     
    Register with the Graduation Office on the ground floor of the Press Centre. You will need to bring your e-ticket with you. When you register, you will be allocated a seat number. It is essential that you sit in this seat during the ceremony. You will also be given your guest tickets. 
     
    From 8.45am
     
    Collect your academic dress from Ede and Ravenscroft who will be located immediately outside of the Theatre. If time permits, you may wish to have photographs taken by Tempest Photography, the University's official photographers. Tempest will also be located outside of the Theatre throughout the day. 
     
    10.00am
     
    All students and guests must find their seats, with graduands sitting in their allocated seats only. Guests do not have allocated seats, but must show their guest ticket in order to be admitted to the Theatre. Upon production of a ticket, guests will be directed to an available seat by an usher.
     
    10.30am
     
    The ceremony will begin promptly at 10.30am. The Academic Procession will enter the Theatre and take their seats on the stage.
     
    The Chancellor will open the ceremony, then the Vice-Chancellor will address the audience. Graduands will then be called to the stage in turn by the Dean, before being prompted to shake hands with the Chancellor and proceed to the other side of the stage. Graduands will collect their certificate before leaving the stage, and must return quickly to their allocated seat.
     
    At the mid point in the ceremony, an Honorary Graduand or University Medallist may be presented with their award. Once all of the graduands have been presented with their certificates, the Chancellor will address the audience and formally confer the awards.
     
    The Academic Procession will leave the Theatre followed by the graduates. Guests will then be invited to leave the Theatre and join the graduates immediately outside the Theatre for photographs and souvenirs. 
     
    12.00pm-1.30pm
     
    Join fellow students and staff for a Graduate Reception on the ground floor of the campus. Complimentary lunch and refreshments will be provided for all students and their guests.

    Ceremony two - 2pm

    11.00am
     
    Register with the Graduation Office on the ground floor of the Press Centre. You will need to bring your e-ticket with you. When you register, you will be allocated a seat number. It is essential that you sit in this seat during the ceremony. You will also be given your guests' tickets. 
     
    From 11am, you will also be able to collect your academic dress from Ede and Ravenscroft who will be located immediately outside of the Theatre.     12.00-1.30pm

    Graduate reception

    From 12pm until 1.30pm, Loughborough University London will host a graduate reception for students and their guests to enjoy a complementary lunch and drinks reception with fellow students and staff. Come along before or after your ceremony to catch up with friends or introduce your guests to members of the academic faculty.
