Inspiring Success

Shanite Harris was our very first student to register at Loughborough University London. Aged 25, Shanite received a 100% scholarship to study MSc Sport Business Innovation, as part of our Inspiring Success programme.

Where are you from?

I was born in Hackney, UK and studied at Cardinal Pole Catholic School in Hackney, East London, where I achieved my A levels. I then completed my undergraduate degree at the University of East London (UEL), so I was, and continue to be an East Londoner!

Why Loughborough University London?

If I hadn’t been awarded the scholarship, a Master’s degree from one of the UK’s top universities would never have been an option for me. Thanks to the scholarship, I can continue my studies and have the very best chance of achieving the career I have always wanted.

What are you most looking forward to about your MSc Sports Business and Innovation programme?

I think I am mostly looking forward to the teaching. I am really impressed with the quality of teaching at Loughborough and I’ve heard amazing things about the academics leading my course. I am looking forward to meeting them and enjoying the brand new facilities.

I’m also looking forward to meeting students across the campus who have also chosen Loughborough University London for the first time. It’s nice knowing everyone on campus is studying at postgraduate level too – I get the feeling everyone is on the same page.

What attracted you to the course?

I really want to get in-depth knowledge on business, but in the context of sport. I’ve been studying Sport Business since I was seventeen years old, but this Master’s programme is something completely new. Yes, I want to deepen my theoretical knowledge of sport and business, but what I really want is to learn about innovation to shake up the business workplace and become a leader of the sport industry.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

That’s easy. I want to be in a senior position making decisions for a national or international sports company. I like the idea of working in America and I’m inspired by the likes of David Beckham - an east Londoner who managed to build his own Miami MLS franchise. I’ve already worked in Florida, organising and delivering a youth soccer programme. I enjoyed directing a project and liaising with business clients.
