Institute for Sport Business hosts ISN Sports Innovation Networking event

The Institute for Sport Business successfully hosted an exclusive Sports Innovation Networking event on Monday 20 July.

The event saw students from Loughborough University London engage with representatives from 13 different sports innovation start-ups from around the globe.  The event gave the opportunity for companies to pitch their solutions to students and connect with the talent from the Institute for Sport Business’ 2020 cohort. The networking event was held exclusively students studying MSc Sports Business and Innovation and welcomed companies from the Czech Republic, France, Germany, South, Africa, Taiwan, the UK and the USA.

Dr Andrea Geurin Reader within the Institute and soon to be Acting Director of the Institute for Sport Business, Loughborough University London, said “activities such as our Sports Innovation networking event really do show how in demand the skills of our sport business students are. Our curriculum is informed by industry leaders through our ISB Advisory Board and it is truly built around the key cutting-edge themes in sports.  I was so happy to host this event and see so many of our graduating class making connections that will help them in their career.”

Commenting on the event, Ben Cole, Head of Strategic Projects at Loughborough University London said “our Future Space online networking events really support our students on their journey to graduation and the next step in their career. Our Future Space activities are all about offering experiences and support for students to develop skills. This event is one of many online activities that we regularly host to connect companies that need skills with our students. The events are always ‘win-win’ and I would encourage those in our community to attend.”

Many of the conversations started through the event have continued to develop, with companies that attended actively hiring and having follow up discussions with our students off the back of the event.

Max Montrey, CEO and Founder of Sportstrace - a US based data analytics company working in baseball said, “I’ve since been in contact with several of the students to schedule discussions about future employment.”

The event ran successfully, and students reported that the sessions were incredibly valuable to their development as they move into a future in the Sports industry.

A student within the Institute of Sport Business, Vimal Warrier said “Kudos to the Loughborough team - the event was very well organized and the entire 90 minutes went uber smooth and was very productive”.

The event was held online and is part of Loughborough University London’s Future Space careers and employability support that advances students and graduates personal and professional development.  Thanks to its work in supporting several sports innovation start-ups, Loughborough University London has an unrivalled network of rapidly scaling companies looking to offer work placements, internships, and research opportunities to students.
