Local graduates join Loughborough University London on 100% postgraduate scholarships

Loughborough University London have recently welcomed the latest cohort of Inspiring Success scholars onto the campus on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in east London.

Thanks to the support of alumni donors and local businesses, amongst this year's cohort was once again a group of local students who have benefited from a special scholarship designed to connect local talent to the campus. The programme, named Inspiring Success, was first introduced in 2015 to help local unemployed and underemployed graduates from Hackney, Newham, Waltham Forest and Tower Hamlets progress into graduate-level employment.

Over 100 local people have benefited from the support and graduates have gone on to work for companies such as ING, Global Disability Innovation Hub and Hackney Council.

The first stage of the Inspiring Success programme consists of evening workshops designed to enable graduates to reflect on their experience, plan their next career steps, and build their network. The second stage offers attendees the opportunity to apply for a 100% tuition fee scholarship to study one of the innovative postgraduate programmes offered at our London campus.

This year four local people have joined the campus on the Inspiring Success scholarship, bringing the total number of students receiving scholarships up to 44. One of those to receive a scholarship is Asmita Kumar from Waltham Forest. Asmita's scholarship was supported by Madison Square Gardens who are working to develop a new iconic event space in Stratford.

Asmita who was unemployed before she joined the programme said:

"I feel so proud to be joining Loughborough University London this year. The University is really forward thinking in the way it works with companies like Maddison Square Gardens to offer this support. The scholarship will really help me focus on my studies and make the most of my time with the university."

Professor Tony Edwards, Dean of Loughborough University London said:

"I am really proud that we have a programme like Inspiring Success that makes such an impact locally. I am prouder still of our alumni and the local businesses that support the scheme. Our students from east London bring so much to our community and gain so much from their time with us. It really is a win-win situation for all involved."

Jayne McGivern, Executive Vice President, Development and Construction, at MSG Entertainment commented:

"MSG Entertainment is proud to support Inspiring Success, which provides an important boost for graduates in east London to gain valuable job skills and begin exciting careers. With MSG Sphere, we are making local training initiatives and hiring a priority and will work closely with our neighbours to deliver on that commitment. Asmita has already made important contributions to her community – we look forward to seeing her thrive in this programme and beyond.”

The Inspiring Success Programme was originally developed through the kind support of the London Legacy Development Corporation.
