Loughborough University London to host the 2021 Techne Congress

Loughborough University London will be hosting the Techne Congress from 5-7 July 2021.

The virtual event will welcome the entire techne cohort and, as the host organisation, Loughborough University doctoral researchers will also be invited to attend.

Our Loughborough University London campus is widely renowned for its innovative and forward-thinking practices and concepts, so unsurprisingly the theme we have set for this congress is: Back to the Future!

The pandemic has affected our lives and livelihoods in previously unimaginable ways. It has had profound effects on the cultural and creative industries and highlighted issues of equality, diversity and inclusion. What are our post pandemic aspirations? What can we learn from our recent and distant pasts? How can we create a better future? This theme is built around the idea of returning to thinking about the future, as we emerge from and come to terms with, the pandemic and its effects.

More details regarding the 2021 Techne Congress will be announced shortly. Keep checking our event page for more details.

Loughborough University London and techne

Since our involvement with techne, Loughborough University London has announced several studentships to support research projects within the Institute for Design Innovation and the Institute for Media and Creative Industries. Our student community consists of inventors, researchers and entrepreneurs with fantastic concepts and contributions.

Our Loughborough University London campus is positioned in the perfect location for change and innovation: Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. An area which is constantly being transformed by cultural and creative innovation, we are ideally located for researchers to witness the power and significance of the arts and humanities. Participants in this regeneration range from community-based arts initiatives through to global, cultural institutions.

As Stratford underwent one of the biggest recent regeneration projects in London, it is now often referred to as the 'Capital of the East.' Main components of the regeneration on our door step have been:

  • Economic – supporting new jobs and skills, encouraging trade, inward investment and tourism
  • Sports – continuing elite success, development of more sports facilities and encouraging participation in schools sports and wider social aspects
  • Volunteering – inspiring others to volunteer and encouraging social change
  • Sustainability - tackling the significant environmental challenges of our time: a changing climate, the loss of biodiversity and the overconsumption of vital resources.

Loughborough University London is located at the former Press and Broadcast Centres for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, better known as Here East. Building on the creative and entrepreneurial heritage of London, Loughborough University London has created a thriving and innovative campus. Global businesses and scaling companies work side by side with top universities, research institutes and world-class creative institutions to create a unique environment for the 4,000 people – and growing – to simultaneously work towards a new way of thinking, a better way of doing, and a seamless path to exciting, collaborative opportunities that change the way we live and work.

For these reasons and many more, Loughborough is perfectly poised to host the Techne Congress and make it a resounding success!
