Institute for Sport Business Careers Symposium 2022
Loughborough University London in partnership with Global Sports hosted the Institute for Sport Business Careers Symposium on 8 December 2022. The event brought together sport industry experts to share their advice, journeys and insights to current students.
Guest speakers included Jacqueline Smith-Dubendorfer, Global Vice President of Digital Sales at Porsche AG and former Adidas executive; HarkiranChima, Senior OTT Business Manager at OneFootball and Mark Nervegna, Head of Research and Analytics at SportBusiness.
There were talks on topics such asthe current state of the sports industry. Jacqueline Smith-Dubendorfer shared her experience working with major sports brands and the digital transformation of the industry. HarkiranChima discussed the opportunities for innovation and growth in the online streaming of sports events and the importance of data analysis in the industry. Mark Nervegna shared his knowledge of the research and analytics in the sports industry and how it is helping organisations make better decisions.
The event was also attended by alumniSid Kohli, CEO of Decyfr Sport and UEFA Secretary General, Olivia Eastwood Gray, Commercial and Consumer Products Intern at NFL UK, Tian (William) Cai, International Marketing Officer at Watford Football Club, Komal Ghai from Seven League and Jayant Ganju, Football Statistician at Sky Sports, who shared their professional journeys since graduating from the university.
They gave students practicaladvice on networking, building relationships, and establishing connections with professionals within the field in order to progress their career as well as insights into opportunities within the industry as well as advice on steps to take. Throughout the event, current students had the opportunity to ask questions and engage with the speakers, making the event interactive and engaging. In addition to the informative and enlightening discussions, the symposium was followed by a networking event that provided a key opportunity for students to further connect and engage with the guest speakers and alumni.

Now in its 4th year, the careers symposiumcontinues to offer students the opportunity to gain insight into the diverse opportunities available within the sports industry today. Further career development workshops will be offered for ISB students in spring 2023 to build on this careers symposium and help prepare students for employment in the sports industry.
