The Doctoral Researcher Summer Showcase is back for 2021

The annual Summer Showcase for doctoral researchers will be held in-person and online between 21-25 June 2021.

It is the perfect opportunity for doctoral researchers at both campuses to show off their work to a public audience. There are two parts of the Summer Showcase; the Research Showcase and the Three Minute Thesis Competition.

The Doctoral College is encouraging doctoral researchers in all Institutes and Schools to try a creative and fun approach to present their work and experiences.

Suggestions for the Research Show case include:

  • Baking your thesis and sharing this online – inspiration can be found by searching #BakeYourPhD on Twitter
  • Writing a poem, song or rap
  • Creating a poster
  • Making a comic strip
  • Writing a magazine or news article
  • Filming a ‘breaking’ TV story
  • Building or sculpting a scene

Please complete the online form to enter. The closing date is 15 June.

The Summer Showcase will also feature the Three Minute Thesis (3MT®) competition.

Participants have three minutes (and a single slide) in which to present a compelling oration on your thesis and its significance. 3MT is not an exercise in trivialising or ‘dumbing-down’ research, but challenges you to consolidate your ideas and research discoveries so they can be presented concisely to a non-specialist audience.

Entries close on 15 June.
