Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park awarded Green Flag Award once again
We're incredibly proud that Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, the home of Loughborough University London, has been awarded the prestigious Green Flag Award for a seventh year in a row.
The Green Flag Award scheme recognises and rewards well managed parks and green spaces, setting the benchmark standard for the management of recreational outdoor spaces across the United Kingdom and around the world.
Spread across 560 acres of captivating parkland, Queen Elizabeth Olympic park is renowned as one of the very best green spaces in the whole of the United Kingdom.
The Park was previously the site of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic games and has since become the heart of one of the biggest regeneration projects in London.
Compromising of iconic venues still playing host to national and international sports events, as well as forming an important part of everyday life for the surrounding communities, the beautiful parklands have now become a world-class destination, attracting local residents and tourists alike, as well as providing new homes and business districts - simultaneously acting as a huge economic booster in the local area.
A thriving attraction in London, the Park now consist of London Aquatics Centre, Copper Box Arena, Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre, Lee Valley VeloPark, London Stadium, ArcelorMittal Orbit, East Village, London Olympics Media Centre, International Quarter London – and with Westfield Stratford City too, there’s no wonder why this park is among the most popular and most visited in London.
On top of all of the activities and experiences available, the park also plays a significant role in local sustainability. Loaded with biodiverse green spaces, clean, usable rivers and canals, and a network of walking and cycle paths subsequently improving Environmental Quality – the green spaces add to the contribution of clean air, natural resources, and a nontoxic environment which is an the type of environment we had envisaged for our Loughborough University London community.
