Creative, Marketing and Media event hailed a success

Students passionate about a career in Creative, Marketing and Media were given unique industry insight last week at an event at Loughborough University London.

More than 170 students headed to the capital campus on Wednesday 18 April for talks, workshops, a portfolio surgery and a question and answer session with top names in the business.

The ‘Creative, Marketing and Media Industry Event 2018’, organised by the Careers Network, welcomed representatives from more than 30 different organisations including BT SportIBM iXNational Theatre and IMG.

Several alumni – including Ed Williams, co-founder of Candy Kittens – and members of the Loughborough family also spoke during the day and shared their expert knowledge.

As well as getting an insight into careers in the industry and a glimpse of future trends, attendees had the opportunity to receive crucial feedback on their portfolios and network over drinks.

Hannah Thompson, a master's student studying Global Media and Cultural Industries, says the event provided her with “world class contacts and potential job offers”.

She said:  “I finally feel confident in my future direction having spoken to such a wide range of speakers from all areas of the media industries.

“The diversity of the guest speakers and workshops provided a well-rounded overview of the different options and all speakers really engaged with us as students, you could really tell they were passionate and keen to give us the best possible advice and opportunities.

“I came away with business cards galore, a new sense of direction and so much confidence. I truly can’t thank the team behind this enough.”

Associate Dean for Enterprise Andrew Selby commented: “I am delighted to see an event I pioneered with colleagues from Careers Network grow and develop on the London campus.

“It is a great example of an enterprising venture that promotes the fastest growing area of the UK economy and at the same time allows students from both campuses to come together and share ideas, ambitions and knowledge.

“We retain a great relationship with many Loughborough graduates in the Creative, Media and Marketing industries and their willingness to give their time, experience and expertise is a testament to their loyalty to their alma mater.

“I find the involvement of new graduates, who are able to offer immediate advice to graduating students, especially pleasing.

“This builds on an impressive array of employers from global organisations such as IBM, IMG and the National Theatre who want to engage with Loughborough students in the capital.

“The event is also important in promoting collaboration, interest and familiarity between university staff from both campuses.

“The London campus on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is ideally placed to host an event like this and in time, I hope that the familiarity that graduates have with the campus will enable them to use the space for their own professional and leisure interests.”
