Institute for Media and Creative Industries

The Institute for Media and Creative Industries offers excellence in postgraduate teaching and research across the major arenas of media, communication and culture in both the Global North and Global South.

We focus particularly on the shifting dynamics between communication, culture and power in the organisation of the creative and cultural industries. This includes legacy mass media and newer digital and social media systems and includes arts and heritage sectors. Our research interests span everyday communication, media and cultural practices; media, communication and identities; and, media and communication for social change.

Through our cutting-edge research, funded by national and international research councils and organisations, we have developed strong connections with community groups, cultural institutions and global agencies. We pride ourselves on our innovative approach and in pioneering new directions in media, communication and creative industries research and postgraduate education.

London is one of the world's principal hubs for media and communication, and is the primary destination for many national and international agencies operating in the media and creative industries. Loughborough University London is located in East London, which is home to more artists, makers and creative start ups than anywhere else in Europe.
