My journey to Loughborough University London

At my previous university I never took the chance to become a Student Ambassador or any other opportunities, so the moment my place was confirmed at Loughborough, I made sure to apply to the Student Ambassador and Student Representative positions.

When I completed my Undergraduate degree, I was unsure whether I wanted to continue studying, but following a call with the Institute Director, who explained how the course would be delivered, and all the benefits of joining Loughborough University London, I was able to make my decision to study my postgraduate degree.

Why I applied to be a Student Ambassador

Representing your university, learning to work as a team, developing interpersonal skills, and gaining experience that can be put on your CV are some of the many benefits of being a Student Ambassador. So, if any that sounds good to you, make sure to have a look through the Learn application and your emails during your first few weeks for opportunities to apply!

The application process

Compared to all the job applications I’ve done this one is very simple and straightforward. It’ll ask you for the reasons why you have decided to apply for this position and the skills you can bring to the team. The interview process was very interesting as we had to do them in groups, which was a great insight into how Student Ambassador work can be!

Highlights of being a Student Ambassador

Conducting campus tours and getting the chance to speak to prospective students has to be my highlight of being a Student Ambassador. Getting to help students as they begin their postgraduate journey is something that makes me proud.

Skills development

I have never been someone with a lot of confidence, but the Student Ambassador position has really helped me step out of my comfort zone! My time management is also something that has improved as result of this position, as I constantly need to make sure there are no clashes between my shifts and lectures/seminars!

Confidence and time management are some of the most appreciated skills in almost all careers. As I continue to develop these skills, along with the many others I have acquired as an Ambassador, I take small but important steps closer to being ready to achieve my aspirational goals.

Tips for balancing work and study

Get a calendar! During my last year of undergraduate, I got myself a calendar to keep track of events and birthdays but realised that it was just as helpful to include lectures/seminars, deadlines, and shifts.
