LU Arts

Explore the vibrant arts scene surrounding Loughborough University London and get creative with the help of LU Arts.

LU Arts is the University’s extra-curricular arts programme, which encourages students and staff to get involved in the arts and do something creative in your spare time.

Throughout the academic year, we offer a variety of opportunities to explore, participate in, and enjoy the arts. In addition to the opportunities highlighted below, look out for one-off creative competitions where students can win prizes and have their work showcased.

We collaborate with partners in London, such as the Student Experience Team, who deliver events and activities on campus. If you have an idea for an arts event in London, then feel free to email LU.Arts@mailbox.lboro.ac.uk, to discuss it and explore what support we may be able to give.

LU Arts Map

There is a rich and varied arts and cultural offer in the area surrounding the London campus. To help you find out what’s on offer, LU Arts has produced an illustrated arts map and guide to the local area. Pick up your copy of the London arts map from reception or look out for a copy in your induction bag when you start at the University.

Arts and Music Scholarships

Are you a budding musician, writer, performer, or visual artist outside of your studies or research? The annual Arts and Music Scholarships recognise and reward talent and commitment in any art form.

The scholarships are open to postgraduate taught and postgraduate research students. Each scholar receives a £200 cash prize and up to £500 in additional bespoke funding to help develop their talent further. This could be in the form of tuition, mentoring, subscriptions/memberships or purchasing specialist equipment. The deadline for 2026/27 scholarships is 18 October 2026.

Events

Pop-up Maker Space

Join us at one of our regular lunchtime drop-in sessions. Our free Pop-up Maker Space offers quick and simple creative activities, which are suitable for all. The sessions are held over a two-hour lunchtime period in the ground floor foyer on the second Thursday of each 4-week teaching block.

Everyone knows that it’s good to take a break from your desk or screens for a short while, and doing something creative can be great for your wellbeing. Whether you’ve got 15mins or an hour, there’s something you can make or do in the time you have.

Each Pop-up session has a different focus, which is self-led with simple instructions to follow and a student ambassador on hand to welcome you and chat!

Online events

Our events programme features occasional online events, which may include artist talks, discussion events and short artist screenings. Most of these online events are part of Radar – our contemporary art commissioning programme. Radar invites artists to produce new work in response to research that is taking place across the University’s two campuses. Online events are open to all.

Individual events will be listed on our ‘What’s On’ page and on the London events page.
