What is Personal Best London?

Our Personal Best London programme has been designed to support all of our students to recognise and better articulate their own skills and experiences, sequentially allowing students to reflect on their skills, build experience and effectively invest in themselves for their future careers. The Personal Best London award is a fantastic way of evidencing your personal and professional development during your time at Loughborough University London.

This programme enables you to get the best out of your time as a student as well as helping you prepare for your career beyond university.

What does Personal Best London involve?

Personal Best London begins with a compulsory survey  to be completed when you arrive in London as a student with us. This helps the Future Space team to learn more about you so we can deliver more of the things you want and need.

You then need to complete three related sections for the award:

  • Reflection and Action – Taking part in activities which give you the opportunity to reflect on previous activity and plan out actions to improve your skill set through future development
  • Skills – Opportunities for you to develop professional, operational or technical skills through workshops and other activities
  • Experience – Activities which will help you to gain experience to contribute to your CV or profile and to help grow your network

There is then a final reflective report submission required to successfully complete the award.

IMPORTANT - Personal Best London progression is monitored through our Handshake Journey “ Personal Best London ” – Students must activate this journey in order to track attendance and progression through activities attended. If you do not activate the journey, your contribution towards the award through attendance may not get recorded. Once activated, this will allow students to track their progression through each of the three categories through the Handshake app .

Students are required to record attendance to at least 15 activities (5 for each section) over their time at LU LDN, using our event check in system at each event – It is the responsibility of students that check in is completed and added to your Personal Best London record. If you do not check in at events, we will not be able to add this to your Personal Best London record.

Reflective Report:

Once you have completed your required 15 activities, you will be invited to produce a reflective report which reflects upon your developmental journey whilst at LU LDN.  This is your chance to reflect on your experience and how this has impacted on your skills and experience as you embark on the next step of your career.

Your reflective submission can be a video, podcast, poster, presentation or written document. Examples of previous successful submissions  can be found in Handshake.

All submissions for the full award must be completed by June for October starters and December for January starters. Completing the award means you will be invited to our  Community Celebration Event  to receive your award.
