Professor Angela McRobbie

Angela is a fellow of the British Academy, specialist in feminist cultural theory, popular culture, the fashion industry and creative economy.

Profile

Angela is a Visiting Professor within the Institute for Creative Futures at Loughborough University London after 22 years as Professor of Communications at Goldsmiths University of London.

She is currently working on three research projects: completing a book from the CREATe AHRC study Fashion as Creative Economy, finishing a textbook which updates her early research carried out at the Birmingham University Centre for Contemporary Cultural Studies from mid 1970s to mid 1989s and editing and curating as well as contributing to a book to celebrate the 80th birthday of the Berlin-based artist, filmmaker and documentarist Ulrike Ottinger.

Angela also contributes to the Guardian BBC Radio 4 Women's Hour and Thinking Allowed.

Research

Current research and collaborations

AHRC CREATe Fashion as Creative Economy 2013-2018. Now she is completing a book titled Fashion as Creative Economy Polity Press 2022 co-authored with Dan Strutt and Carolina Bandinelli.

Current PhD / research supervisions

In the past, Angela has supervised 23 students to completion of PhD in a wide range of topics.
