Each year, Loughborough University host the Placement and Internship awards to recognise students who have excelled through extra-curricular careers development. This year, two Loughborough University London students were nominated for an internship award and attended the event last December.

Min Kim and Shanila Thirimanne were both nominated in the postgraduate internship category, having completed micro-internships at Equal Kicks and at both Fluid Focus and Edmund Group, respectively. Despite narrowly missing out, it was a great experience for both students to attend the event in Loughborough and connect with colleagues and fellow nominees.

Min Kim, MSc Sports marketing shared her experience of the micro internship:

One of the absolute highlights of my Master’s journey was the opportunity to complete a placement with Lauren Heria at Equal Kicks. Being able to work within the women’s football industry, which has always been a dream of mine, was an incredible experience. This placement also served as a vital bridge, leading to my further opportunity with Foudys, the first retailer in the world dedicated to official merchandise in women's sports. I am deeply grateful to Loughborough University London’s Future Space for providing such professional pathways and to Lauren for her mentorship and support throughout this process. I look forward to continuing my growth and contributing to the future of the women’s sports industry.

Shanila Thirimanne, MSc AI and data analytics said about the event:

It was wonderful to be invited to the East Midlands campus, connect with fellow students and colleagues from the Midlands campus, and explore the main campus facilities. Special thanks to Dan Robinson and Future Space as always guiding us towards success. The work I did with fluid focus and Edmund during my placement was transformative, and being recognized for it means a lot. Onwards and upwards!

A big thanks to colleagues at our Loughborough Campus – We look forward to returning this year following more Micro Internships!
