On Thursday 10 April, students from Loughborough University London were once again fortunate to join the Future Space team and attend an exclusive insight session with ai.io at Chelsea Football Club’s Cobham training facility.

Students were welcomed to ai.io’s mobile elite performance laboratory, used at various sporting facilities around the world to track athletic ability and collect, analyse, and engage with player performance data at an unprecedented scale.

Dr Chris Howe, who led the session, shared his experience of the visit:

We greatly value our continued relationship with Loughborough University London and were delighted to welcome for the third year in a row, a select group of students spanning several LUL courses to our aiLab at the Chelsea FC training ground in Cobham.

These visits offer a unique opportunity to bring their academic studies to life through real-world applications. For us at ai.io, it also provides us with a chance to connect with talented and engaged students, many of whom we hope to collaborate with in the future.

Arawn Ap Robin, currently studying Sport Analytics and Technologies, said:

The visit to ai.io's lab was an incredibly rewarding experience. The visit was interesting, innovative, and highly engaging from start to finish. The environment fostered a strong sense of curiosity and excitement, and it was clear that cutting-edge technology is at the heart of everything ai.io does.

One of the highlights was taking part in a series of gamified physical tests. These activities were not only fun and competitive but also provided valuable insights into performance analytics and how data can be used to enhance athletic capabilities. It was impressive to see how AI and sport science are being integrated in such an interactive and forward-thinking way.

Overall, the experience was both insightful and inspiring. I'm grateful for the opportunity and look forward to seeing how ai.io continues to push the boundaries in this space.

We would like to thank ai.io and the aiLab team for their generous support and hospitality in welcoming our students to learn more about tech-based data analytics in a professional sports setting!
