Why I chose Loughborough University London
I chose Loughborough University London because of its excellent reputation and academic quality. I was looking for a qualification from a top UK university, and the courses offered aligned perfectly with my background and ambitions. The fees were also more affordable compared to other universities, which made it a practical choice for me.
My overall academic experience
My overall academic experience was very positive. I appreciated the structured course, the support, and the many opportunities that were available to me. I particularly enjoyed working with the professors, the learning environment, and the valuable connections I made. In addition, taking classes with the Institute for International Management and Entrepreneurship added depth to my studies and enhanced my skill set. The crossover between institutes was one of the key reasons I chose my course. The professors from the Institute of Management were equally outstanding, which reflects the university’s strong academic standards and reputation. I am excited to stay engaged as an active alumnus, continuing to support our community.
One of the most valuable aspects of my course was the opportunity to engage with external projects and partners, such as Chatham House. It was a unique experience as a student. I also appreciated the chance to travel to the main campus and connect with the wider university community. The access to excellent digital and physical library resources was another significant advantage that enriched my learning experience.
Although I didn’t use the academic support and career services extensively, I was aware that both Future Space and the university’s structure were well-prepared to offer assistance. I particularly enjoyed the sessions where alumni shared their experiences, as they provided valuable insights. I did seek some help with my CV, and I found it useful.
Loughborough London community: supportive, inclusive, and connected
The campus facilities were modern, accessible, and well-structured. The library, both digital and physical, was excellent, with a great range of materials and study spaces. The environment was designed to support both independent and collaborative work, making it an ideal place to study and engage with others.
Outside of my studies, the sense of community at Loughborough University London was a major highlight for me. I enjoyed the chance to connect with professors and fellow students, and I found that networking and meaningful exchanges were always encouraged.
I truly appreciated the support and generosity of the faculty in collaborating with external events, which added great value to my experience. Some standout moments for me were the amazing summer day off and the lovely end-of-year party – they really created a fantastic sense of belonging. The university was also very international and inclusive, which was one of my top highlights. I’d rate inclusivity a solid 10/10.
How my studies prepared me for my career
My time at Loughborough University London gave me a strong foundation and a broad perspective on the modern world. The course aligned perfectly with my current role in international trade, equipping me with valuable insights into diplomacy, business, and trade. This combination not only expanded my opportunities in public service but also provided me with essential tools to grow in the private sector.
I’m very happy to be with my current employer, as it’s a unique company in the way we operate. I’m now in my second year, and my responsibilities and level of engagement have expanded significantly. I have stepped into the role of Project Manager, where I focus on business strategy and management support, overseeing project analysis and process management. Additionally, I now have two employees working alongside me, marking an important step in my career progression. This growth reflects the trust I have earned within the company, and as our business continues to expand, I am grateful for the opportunity to take on greater responsibilities and receive recognition for my contributions.
My advice for future students
My advice to current or prospective students would be to be persistent, resilient, and determined. Securing a job wasn’t easy, and I believe many of us go through a similar process. There’s no secret – it’s all about applying consistently and staying determined.
I applied for several positions, and it’s often a challenging. However, it was also a valuable learning experience. I realised that with each application and interview, I gained more confidence and improved my approach. It requires patience and practice. Always ask for feedback, though many companies don’t provide it. By an incredible coincidence, I received my offer just one day after our graduation ceremony – it felt like a perfect grand finale!
