Shape the Future of International Management and Entrepreneurship

The Institute for International Management and Entrepreneurship (IIME) at Loughborough University London invites nominations for membership of its inaugural Advisory Board.

IIME conducts research, education and engagement at the intersection of international management, entrepreneurship, and innovation. The Advisory Board plays an important role in helping the Institute remain relevant, forward-looking, and connected to the needs of students, employers, and wider society.

The Board brings together accomplished professionals, entrepreneurs, policymakers, thought leaders, and experts from diverse sectors and backgrounds who share a commitment to advancing knowledge, developing future leaders, and strengthening the impact of IIME and Loughborough University London.

Membership offers an opportunity to contribute strategic insight, engage with leading academics and fellow practitioners, and help shape the future direction of the Institute and its activities.

About the Advisory Board

The Advisory Board provides external perspective, expertise, and challenge to support and enhance IIME's activities, impact, and reputation.

The Board is advisory in nature and has no executive or decision-making authority. Its role is to inform and enrich the Institute's thinking by providing independent advice on emerging trends, opportunities and priorities.

The Board contributes to the Institute through three interconnected areas:

Strategic Advice

Board members act as a strategic sounding board for IIME. They provide guidance on the continued relevance and distinctiveness of the Institute's taught programmes, research agenda, and external engagement activities.

This includes contributing to long-term thinking on:

  • Taught programme development and portfolio evolution
  • Student experience, employability, and future skills
  • Research priorities and emerging areas of inquiry
  • Enterprise, innovation, and entrepreneurship
  • Industry engagement and societal impact
  • Developments in management practice, technology, policy, and leadership

Thought Leadership

The Board supports the development and dissemination of ideas that connect academic expertise with contemporary organisational, entrepreneurial, and policy challenges.

Members may contribute to thought leadership initiatives through activities such as:

  • Guest lectures and masterclasses
  • Collaborative student projects and dissertations
  • Practitioner-oriented articles, reports, and briefings
  • Podcasts, webinars, and events
  • Participation in working groups focused on emerging themes and opportunities

These activities create opportunities for Board members to engage with leading debates in their fields, share expertise with future leaders, and contribute to influential conversations across business, government, and society.

Advocacy and External Engagement

Board members serve as ambassadors for IIME and Loughborough University London, helping to strengthen the Institute's visibility, reputation, and external reach.

This may include:

  • Facilitating introductions to industry, professional bodies, public sector organisations, and policymakers
  • Supporting research, engagement, and impact activities
  • Participating in Institute events
  • Representing the Board and IIME at industry or professional events
  • Promoting opportunities for collaboration and partnership
  • Advising on how IIME can strengthen its profile and influence

Desired Experience and Background

IIME welcomes nominations from candidates with diverse professional backgrounds, experiences, and perspectives. The Institute is particularly interested in individuals with expertise in areas relevant to its teaching, research, and engagement activities, including:

  • Strategy and international business
  • Entrepreneurship and innovation
  • Artificial intelligence and digital transformation
  • Human resource management and the future of work
  • Accounting, finance and governance
  • Sustainability and responsible business
  • Public policy and public sector leadership
  • Organisational leadership and change

Candidates may come from large organisations, SMEs, start-ups, professional services firms, government, international organisations, NGOs, social enterprises or other sectors.

The Institute seeks a Board composition that reflects diversity of sector, geography, background, professional experience, and career stage.

Expectations of Board Members

Board members are expected to:

  • Attend and actively participate in Board meetings
  • Contribute independent advice, insight, and constructive challenge
  • Support thought leadership and engagement initiatives where possible
  • Participate in working groups or projects aligned with their expertise and interests
  • Act as advocates for the Institute and its mission
  • Engage constructively with fellow Board members, students, and faculty
  • Act with integrity and in support of the broader interests of the Institute

Board members are expected to contribute from a strategic and outward-looking perspective rather than as representatives of a particular organisation or sector.

Membership of the Advisory Board is voluntary and unpaid.

Board members are normally appointed for a three-year term and may be eligible for reappointment.

The anticipated time commitment is approximately 40-60 hours per year, comprising:

  • Four Board meetings annually (normally two in-person and two virtual)
  • Preparation and follow-up for meetings
  • Participation in occasional working groups, thought leadership activities or events
  • Outreach and advocacy activities, where appropriate
  • Board meetings typically last half a day and are scheduled in advance for the year. In-person meetings are normally held at Loughborough University London.

The level and nature of involvement beyond Board meetings will vary depending on members' interests, expertise, and availability.

Nominations

IIME seeks nominations of individuals who are committed to helping shape the future of management and entrepreneurship education, research, and engagement.

The Institute welcomes nominations from established and emerging leaders who bring strategic insight, intellectual curiosity, professional credibility, and a desire to contribute to an engaged community of academics and practitioners.

Through their service, Advisory Board members will help influence ideas, support future talent, strengthen connections between academia and practice, and contribute to the continued development of IIME and Loughborough University London.

Nominations should include a current CV and a brief expression of interest outlining the candidate's interest in serving on the IIME Advisory Board and the contribution they would expect to make. Nominations should be sent via email to IIME Institute Director, Professor Gerhard Schnyder by 25 September 2026.
