Ellie is studying our Design Innovation MSc programme.
Before studying at Loughborough University London, Ellie studied her undergraduate degree at Loughborough University (East midlands campus).
Why did you choose to study at Loughborough University London?
I completed my undergraduate qualification at Loughborough University and really enjoyed my time there. This was due to the amazing support from all members of staff as well as the unique attitude of the Loughborough students. Everyone I connected with through my course, accommodation and sport was approachable, confident and smiley. As a result of this, and the opportunity to work in London, I applied to continue my studies at Loughborough University London.
What attracted you to your programme?
When looking at the different opportunities to further my study, I was drawn to Design Innovation Management because of the collaborative project which provides the chance to work with businesses. This would allow me to gain real life project experience as well as develop my network when looking for graduate opportunities.
In addition, I had completed a Bachelor’s degree in Product Design Engineering and was keen to continue my study of Design as well as develop new skills in Management.
What do you enjoy the most about your course/Loughborough University London?
I think the part of the course I enjoy the most is being able to work with people from different backgrounds to my own. There are students from different cultures and educational fields which has given rise to interesting conversations and has opened my mind to other ways of thinking and working.
How do you think studying a master's degree is helping you to reach your future career goals?
This master’s degree has not only given me a further qualification but has also helped give me more clarity in what I want to do when I graduate. This focus has enabled me to actively apply for graduate roles and comfortably express why I want, and why I am well suited for, the role.
Furthermore, Loughborough University London offer the chance to get involved in the Digital Skills Programme which has equipped me with more transferable skills such as Project Management Techniques, UI/UX development and Podcasting tips! These skills are invaluable when applying for future roles as they set me apart from other applicants.
How do you like to spend your time away from your studies?
I am a keen hockey player and so spend most of my time on the hockey pitch. I am involved in volunteer coaching at my local club as well as playing for their ladies team. I really appreciate the opportunity to blow off some steam and interact with people who are not doing what I am!
Do you have any advice for students moving to London?
Studying in London offers the perfect opportunity to experience life in London with support from the university. My advice would be to go for it, it’s the best thing I have done so far.
