Paul is one of our Inspiring Success scholars. He is studying MSc Diplomacy, Statecraft and Foreign Policy within our Institute for Diplomacy and International Governance.

Why did you choose to study at Loughborough University London?

I grew up in the Borough of Newham which is part of East London, and I saw a golden opportunity through Newham workplace about studying at Loughborough University London. I won the Inspiring Success Scholarship to study at Loughborough University London, and I wanted to develop my knowledge on diplomacy, international relations and politics which are my main passion in life. Also the main reason that inspired me to apply to Loughborough University London was a meeting with President Obama in London at the Youth Town Hall.

What attracted you to the programme?

MSc in Diplomacy, Statecraft and Foreign Policy will enable me to develop my interest in International Relations. The modules will give me a greater understanding of how to interact professionally with the European Union for the Deaf and the World Federation for the Deaf, while enabling me to influence on policy decisions and contribute to discourses relating to deafness and disabilities in this field.

  1. I think volunteering is a fantastic opportunity that can help you reach your career goals and can lead you to your passions and dream careers.

  2. I would encourage you to think and reflect on your skills, and how you can become successful after your degree.

  3. I suggest you could learn from role models in your life, and how they can help you to develop your skills, as that will make a remarkable difference in what you can achieve. You can do anything that you want!

Do you have any advice for students moving to London?

I would advise, that during your studies you need to plan a lot of activities when you’re visiting London. I suggest you could ask advice from one of your future classmates from London who will tell you about the city and also attend an Open Evening so that you can visit the campus.

Do you take part in any extra-curricular activities on campus or in the local area?

Yes, I deliver Deaf Awareness training to staff and students and I am involved in different events through the Students’ Union.

Where are the best places to explore on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park?

I can say that the London Olympic Stadium would be best place to explore, and you will feel the amazing atmosphere in the Stadium. I would encourage you to walk around the Olympic Park, which will make you feel refreshed and relaxed.

Do you have any advice to prepare students for the transition from undergraduate to postgraduate study?

I would encourage you to have tutorials with your lecturers, and meet with your Academic Librarian for assignment guidance on a regularly basis. This is very important aspect and will help you to boost your marks. Also keep engaged with students and get involved in activities.
