What have you most enjoyed about your programme so far?
I have enjoyed my secondary module ‘Sports Media and Marketing’ the most and I would say it has been my best experience so far. My lecturer Halley Corbett is an inspiring and enthusiastic woman who always delivers eye-opening lectures and encourages students to be creative. Before the module, I would never have considered working in the industry as I have no relevant knowledge. However, Halley and the guest lecturers have made me believe that everyone can work in any industry they like as long as we have passion and are willing to make the effort.
What attracted you to the programme?
I am always fascinated by the idea of starting my own business. This programme provides tailored modules for students who want to be or already are entrepreneurs. Modules such as ‘Understanding Business Failure,' ‘Entrepreneurship’ and ‘the Collaborative Project’ are very innovative and unique. Each module is designed to address one core problem in starting your own business, such as funding, management, idea generation etc. which I believe are valuable to my future career. On the non-academic side, I have made friends with people who hold similar values but with different background and I always get inspired when talking to them.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In 5 years, preferably I would like to see myself working as a group leader in a management consulting company, or a creative marketing agency. However, my ideal future career still remains unclear, and I hope to discover where my passions lie in by the end of this year.
What advice would you give to prospective students looking to study at Loughborough University London?
Postgraduate study is fun but also intense. For students from the Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship, we have at least one essay every three weeks. Good time management and academic writing skills are a must! Moreover, since Loughborough University London is a very diverse university, having an open mind and listening to other students with patience is very important and it will definitely take your work to the next level.
List at least one thing you wish you knew before arriving on campus?
I wish I knew more about the surroundings. The Olympic park, Westfield Stratford City and Hackney Wick are very nice places to hang out with friends.
How would you describe Enterprise Through the Curriculum?
Enterprise Through the Curriculum (ETC) is an optional module for every Loughborough University London student. It aims to help students better understand the processes and essential skills for applying for jobs. Students need to complete an employability profiling questionnaire, a video interview, and the assessment centre session before November and feedback will be given for each session a few weeks later. Lectures for writing an impressive CV and ways to apply for jobs, as well as the careers fair are very useful. I highly recommend attending all of these classes and events!
Give 3 reasons how Enterprise Through the Curriculum will benefit your future career?
- It provides useful tips, such as what to avoid at the interview and how to perform well in an assessment centre
- It helps us to reflect on ourselves and figure out what our strengths are and what we can improve
- It offers a great chance to build networks with successful entrepreneurs
