PhD research

Practices of audiovisual consumption in evolution: An exploratory study with connected young adults in Brazil.

The objective of Flavio's study, which is exploratory in nature, is to gain more insight into how audiences are experiencing the ongoing transition from a centralised, quasi-monopolistic situation in which few fictional stories galvanised the attention of the whole Brazilian population, to a fragmented panorama of individualised consumption practices in which more and more people are having the possibility to choose from a varied menu of Internet transmitted audiovisual content alternatives. The rapidly changing patterns of audiovisual consumption in Brazil demand empirical investigation, and my study intends to advance the field by researching the emerging audiovisual consumption practices of connected young adults in Brazil, their content choices, motivations and interpretations in light of the acute social inequality in the country.
