Chaoyi studied our Sport Analytics and Technologies MSc programme before going on to study a PhD within the Institute for Digital Technologies. Chaoyi's research looks at optimising football and basketball game strategies with Machine Learning techniques.

Profile

Chaoyi studied her BSc degree at Shanghai Ocean University majoring in Marine Science. Chaoyi also studied master's degree at Shanghai Normal University in Physical Education and an MSc degree at Loughborough University London in Sport Analytics and Technologies.

Chaoyi also went to the professional football club Shanghai Shenxin F.C. to undertake research on the impact of stress on young professional football players from 2018 to 2019.

PhD research

Optimizing football and basketball game strategies with Machine Learning techniques.

This research mainly covers three areas.

  1. Building advanced Goal Probability Model (Soccer).
  2. Fusion of soccer models built with different kinds of datasets (tracking data & event data).
  3. Using Reinforcement Learning and Imitation Learning to train ghosting models for the purpose of optimizing basketball and soccer game strategies.

Awards, grants or scholarships received

Chaoyi received a Distinction degree in the MSc Sport Analytics and Technologies at Loughborough University London. Chaoyi also received the Alumni Bursary for continuing studying a PhD at Loughborough University London.
