Investigating Social Responsibility and CSR within the Esport Industry (Hosted in Berkeley, CA)
The Institute for Sport Business and Institute for International Management are conducting a workshop which will be hosted at Cal Esports Community Center, Berkeley, University of California. The workshop aims to investigate the potential role of Social Impact and Corporate Social Responsibly within the Esport industry.
What is the purpose of the study?
The objective of this research is to gain a better understanding of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and social impact within the Esport Industry. This exploratory study will act as a pilot investigation and intends to better understand the perceptions, attitudes and experiences of key Esport industry influencers and stakeholders towards social impact through/within Esport. This research will explore the challenges and opportunities to enact CSR agendas and consider the potential role of Esport to achieve socio-cultural development goals.
Who is doing this research and why?
This research purpose is to mobilise and engage key Esport influencers and stakeholders to explore and recognise the diverse social development pathways which sit within and outside of Esport environments.
Who is eligible for the workshop?
Key Esport industry stakeholders, influencers and gamers, who are seen to have a wealth of knowledge and expertise within the industry. Unfortunately, those under the age of 18 cannot participate in the study.
We also welcome expressions of interest from those who work in the area of sport for development, community/ youth projects and programmes and may be interested in using Esport.
What will be involved at the workshop?
You will be asked to share your opinions surrounding CSR and the social contribution that Esports could potentially make. This event will be made up of a mix of individual and group activities, alongside wider dialogue and discussion. The session will be recorded to ensure we capture the discussions. Importantly, this will also be an opportunity to network and enhance your understanding of different stakeholder interpretations and experiences towards the role and use of Esport for social impact. Lunch will be provided.
