Dr Eliana Herrera-Huérfano over 25 years of experience as professor and researcher of communication and environmental and social change in Colombia. She is a member and co-founder of ACICOM (Asociación Colombiana de Investigadores en Comunicación).

Her research is based on participatory methodologies that involve interaction with Indigenous communities, environmental advocates and other social or community leaders. Her publications include: Emergencia del territorio y comunicación local and Towards an Epistemology of the South Decoloniality of informative knowledge- power and the new Latin American Communicology. In 2019 she was an Academic Visitor at Institute for Media and Creative Industries of Loughborough University. She completed her PhD at University of Seville, Spain in 2022. She considers herself a learner of the communication and environmental practices of ancestral and indigenous communities.
