Dr Shereen Usdin is the Director of Strategy and New Business, at Wits RHI based in Johannesburg, South Africa.

She is a medical doctor, having graduated from the University of the Witwatersrandand holds a Masters degree in Public Health from Harvard University. She was a founding member of the internationally acclaimed Soul City Institute for Health and Development Communication, now the Soul City Institute for Social Justice.  

A life-long activist for social justice and a widely respected feminist, her work has focused on the social determinants of health. With over three decades of experience, she is recognised globally for her pioneering contribution to social and behavioural change and development communications, HIV prevention care and treatment, Sexual and Reproductive Justice and gender equality. 

She has won numerous awards including the Shoprite Checkers Woman of the Year for her contributions to health and gender, The CEO Most Influential Women Meritorious Award and The GIBS Social Entrepreneur Believer AwardShe was a former co-chair of the South African National AIDS Council’s Prevention Technical Task Team and was a member of the UNAIDS Expert Committee on Social and Behaviour Change Communication.
