Colin McQuistan is the Head of Climate and Resilience Team in the Influence, Impact and Innovation directorate at Practical Action. He is responsible for ensuring that Practical Action’s global development work focuses not only adapting to the challenge of climate change and reducing risk, but that this is done in a way that builds the resilience of current and future populations. Practical Action work in South Asia, Africa and Latin America with a focus on participatory action and learning to reduce poverty, tackle climate change and respond to key development challenges.

Before joining Practical Action, Colin was the Senior Adviser, Agriculture and Climate Change at Oxfam GB. He has over 30 years professional experience in the UK and overseas and has spent 20 years living and working in Southeast Asia working on a variety of development projects with local NGO’s, Governments and International agencies, including 6 years with WWF Greater Mekong as the regional policy director. This provided direct field experience exploring wellbeing, livelihood development and conservation challenges through innovative approaches to deliver sustainable development. Areas of special interest include systems approaches to development, governance, participation and inclusion, sustainability, the challenge of climate change and building resilience.

Colin McQuistan is a trustee of the Loss and Damage Youth Coalition and a steering committee member for Climate Action Network UK. He is on the advisory board of the Institute of Hazard Risk and Resilience (IHRR) at Durham University as well as a member of the Loughborough University International Development and Social Change Advisory Board.
