My journey to Loughborough University London

As a student from Berlin, Germany, my ambition has always been to pursue a master’s in Diplomacy following my bachelor’s in Political Science. During my research, I discovered that Loughborough offers one of the few specialised Diplomacy programmes globally, uniquely blending theoretical insights with practical skills—exactly what I was seeking.

Loughborough’s is renowned for its research-driven and internationally engaged teaching, ranking among the top universities in the UK, further enhancing its appeal. My goal is to contribute to strengthening international relations and resolving conflicts through diplomacy. Thus, I prioritised finding a programme with a curriculum tailored to my aspirations. Loughborough’s course structure and seminar offerings aligned perfectly with my expectations.

Moreover, studying in London has always been a dream of mine, and finding the ideal program in my dream city was the perfect match.

Career development

Loughborough places great value on career opportunities for students after graduation. We regularly have Future Job Events where representatives from various institutions and industries introduce their fields to us. These events allow us to make connections and build a network. As a student here, you’re never left to manage alone; there is always someone ready to support you. Additionally, many internship opportunities are highlighted throughout the semester, which also helps in building a professional network.

Global Excellence Scholarship

Hundreds of students applied for this scholarship, which was intended for only one person, making the competition and selection process incredibly challenging and demanding. Just receiving the email saying you’ve been chosen for an interview, among so many students, makes you feel incredibly proud of yourself.

Since the scholarship covers my tuition fees, I have the chance to focus solely on my studies in London, free from financial worries. The faculty also holds its scholarship recipients in high regard and offers support with any concerns. Life and studying in London can be very expensive. Still, Loughborough provides many scholarship opportunities for which students can apply for. This again highlights the value that the University places on education, here, everyone has a fair chance to pursue their goals.

Scholarship advice

Be socially active! Try to change your environment positively and take an active part in projects. Expand your horizons. To earn a scholarship, having an active resume is essential, volunteer work, projects you’ve initiated or led, and social activities can all play a role in the selection. It’s also important to note that the University has certain goals, and the profile of the scholarship recipient should align with these objectives, as a scholarship holder, you are expected to share their commitment towards innovation and educational advancements.  

Learning highlights

The biggest highlight, of course, is London itself. I was thrilled when I submitted my application and saw that the campus was in London. As a student of diplomacy, I find there to be many opportunities here. There are countless exciting political events to attend, many historical libraries, and overall, London is a beautiful city that has something new to offer every day.

To anyone interested in diplomacy and eager to gain substantial knowledge in this field, Loughborough offers an excellent programme. The course content, reading materials, and site visits we’ve done all contribute to further developing one’s understanding of diplomacy and international relations. It’s also worth mentioning that the University is one of the top-ranked in England, so you can trust the quality of teaching here
