Daniel Graff

Daniel’s expertise lies in high-performance teams. He leads the research initiatives in the area of creative and collaborative teamwork and is the key academic lead for the collaborative student projects across our London campus.

Daniel is a lecturer in Design Innovation and is the module leader for the collaborative project. In addition, Daniel teaches courses related to Design Thinking and Innovation Management to Bachelor, Master, and Executive students in the UK and abroad. He has provided workshops and worked together with his students on projects with companies such as Volkswagen, Panasonic and World Bank. Daniel also leads the research initiatives in the area of creative and collaborative teamwork within the Design Innovation Institute.

Academic background

Prior to joining Loughborough University London, Daniel worked on the team that developed and managed the multidisciplinary International Design Business Management (IDBM) master’s degree program at Aalto University, Finland. IDBM is a joint effort among three Aalto University schools (School of Business, School of Science, and School of Arts, Design & Architecture) to incorporate design, business, and engineering in their respective curriculums. Daniel has a Ph.D. from Aalto University School of Business in Finland. Before his Ph.D., Daniel has worked for several years in service design within the hospitality industry in Germany, England, the USA, and Finland.

Current research and collaborations

Daniel’s research focuses on multidisciplinary and multinational teams. He has published several book chapters and journal articles about information processing in teams. In addition to his work on teams, he has published educational research articles concerning project-based learning in design-thinking projects. Together with various colleagues, his current research projects examine the use of analogies as an important role in processing a team’s diverse knowledge, influencing subsequent team performance.

Interests and activities

If Daniel is not working, you can find him running to the Hackney Marshes or meditating in the Olympic Park.
