Why did you choose Loughborough University London or your programme in particular?

When thinking of the top sport universities in the UK, Loughborough University is at the top of the list. The fact that a new campus opened up in London, in addition to the extra MSc courses offered, made it a very easy decision for me to choose to study the Sports Business & Innovation course at Loughborough University London.

How has Loughborough University London inspired you and helped you to progress in your career?

One thing I have found is that Loughborough University has a great reputation, with most people having either have heard of the University or studied their themselves. The University also has an excellent repuation in the sports industry and it certainly helps when applying for roles and writing on your CV.

Tell us about your most memorable experience on your course.

During my studies, we had multiple site visits to different organisations (for example, Google, GB Hockey, UK Sport) and guest lectures, including a lecture from Ben Ryan. These were not only inspiring but also helped you to understand the different opportunities and roles within the industry.

Where do you currently work and what is your current position?

I currently work as an Athletes' Commision Coordinator at the International Olympic Committee.

Tell us about your career journey so far and the organisation you are currently working for.

I had the opportunity to volunteer at the London 2012 and Sochi 2014 Olympic Games which were both amazing and showed me how great the Olympics are.

Following my BSc, I started off working in sport events with TUI Travel, which was a great experience to learn about the event-travel side of sport and also to be close to the action. After I left this role, I worked in Malaysia for a year, with the National Olympic Committee and the National Institute of Sport. Both of these roles helped give me a really unique experience and for sure helped me land my current job.

I then made the decision to undertake my Sport Business and Innovation MSc at Loughborough London, then after graduating, I took a role with the United Nations Office on Sport for Development and Peace. During this time, I had the opportunity to write speeches for UN Secretary General Ban ki Moon when he went to the Rio 2016 Olympic Games. Additioanlly, I was able to write position papers on issues such as the Israeli football clubs operating in the occupied Palestinian Territories.

With the UNOSDP office closing in 2017, I have since moved to the International Olympic Committee in Lausanne, and have been working in the athlete engagement team since then.

What do you love most about your current job?

One of the things I love is that I get the opportunity to work with so many inspiring athletes from all around the world. It is also rewarding to work on numerous different projects to support and help athletes, and there has never been a dull moment since joining the team in 2017.
