Multimodal learning analytics in the context of Digital media and Creative arts subjects’ education

sui-li

Sui is a doctoral researcher within the Institute for Digital Technologies at Loughborough University London. Her research ties in with the Institute’s strength in applying multimodal learning analytics with the use of biometric trackers and wearable sensors in order to advance the teaching and learning of digital media and creative, practice-based subjects.

After studying Digital Media Arts during her undergraduate studies, Sui obtained two Bachelors’ degrees from Tianjin Academy of Fine Arts in China and University of Hertfordshire in the UK in 2017. She then took part in television and creative industries roles as video editor and creative designer to gain work experiences. She obtained her MSc degree with Distinction in Digital Creative Media from Loughborough University London in 2018.

PhD research description

Originally being and arts graduate, Sui later turned her research direction to digital technologies. Combining her academic background in multiple disciplines, she decided to investigate how biometric and other trackable learner data can jointly be used to model and predict their learning experience. The multimodal learning analytics is a research area, which has recently been studied in the context of the education of STEM subjects, but the research of the application of multimodal learning analytics in creative and practice-based subjects' education is limited. Sui's research goal is to identify and model the relationship between the tracked data and the learner's level of creativity, subject engagement and learning outcomes. Furthermore, she is looking into how specific instructional styles influence learners' progress in creative and practice-based subjects by exploiting multimodal learning analytics.

PhD supervisors

Sui is supervised by Dr Erhan Ekmekcioglu and Professor Ahmet Kondoz.
