Our ambition is to inspire high achieving students from all backgrounds, to study a postgraduate programme with us and benefit from our outstanding teaching and cutting edge research facilities. Our Scholarships and Bursaries have been created to celebrate academic excellence, support ambition and reward meaningful contributions to local communities.

Scholarships and Bursaries for 2016 entry

East London Community Scholarship

Award value: Up to 100% off the full cost of your tuition fees

The East London Community Scholarship offers up to 100% off the full cost of tuition fees for students who obtained GCSE or A-level (or equivalent) qualifications from The East London Growth Boroughs of Barking and Dagenham, Greenwich, Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets and Waltham Forest.

Applicants should complete a one page submission outlining their personal contributions to their local community.

Dean's Award for Enterprise

Award value: 90% off the full cost of tuition fees

The Dean's Award for Enterprise offers 90% off the full cost of tuition fees, for UK, EU and international students with an inspiring business idea.

The award will be given at the discretion of the Dean, with the support of the Senior Leadership Team. Applicants are asked to produce a one-page submission of their business idea, though students are encouraged to include images and media content to support their application. Shortlisted applicants will be asked to complete a short video interview to discuss their business idea in more detail.

Winners of the award are under no obligation to start a new business, though winners who are serious about launching their own business will receive professional support and advice to turn their idea into a reality.

Alumni Bursary

Award value: 20% off the full cost of your tuition fees

The Alumni Bursary offers graduates from Loughborough University 20% towards the full cost of their tuition fees, regardless of their programme or nationality. There is no selection process for this scholarship, as all Loughborough University alumni are entitled to this award.

Excellence Scholarship

Award value: 20% off the full cost of your tuition fees

The Academic Excellence Scholarship awards high achieving UK, EU and international students 20% off the full cost of their tuition fees. Any student holding a high 2:1 or first class degree (or equivalent) from a recognised, high quality institution will receive this scholarship.

1909 Excellence Award

Award value: £1,909 off the full cost of your tuition fees

In the year 1909 a small Technical Institute in the centre of Loughborough was established, which provided local facilities for further education and offered courses in technical subjects, science and art. That Loughborough is now an internationally known and respected University is largely due to the entrepreneurial vision of our founders.

To commemorate over 100 years of excellence, Loughborough University is proud to offer exceptional UK and EU students with a 2:1 or higher (or equivalent) from a recognised, high quality institution an additional £1,909 towards the cost of tuition fees.

The 1909 Excellence Award is a competitive scholarship that can be granted on top of the 20% Excellence Scholarship or the 20% Alumni Bursary for UK and EU students who:

  • Wish to study a programme from the Institute for Digital Technologies, the Institute for Design Innovation or the Institute for Sport Business.

AND

  • Is a valued graduate, who has made a significant contribution to their University during their studies. Contributions may include a leadership role within a Student Union, a longer-term commitment as a student mentor or ambassador, an Academic representative or leadership position within a University school or department, or an outstanding contribution towards University fundraising, volunteering or charity initiatives - your application should include a reference we can contact to verify this.

OR

  • Have at least 2 years of relevant, professional work experience in an industry with link to their chosen postgraduate programme - your application should include a reference we can contact - your application should include a reference we can contact to verify this.

OR

  • Have a plan to create a new business after graduation.

Applicants should complete the application form detailing how they meet the above criteria. The final deadline for submission of an application is 31 August 2016, but some awards will be granted on merit before this date, so you are encouraged to apply as early as you can. This is a highly prestigious award to be awarded to a small cohort of exceptional students.

UK Postgraduate Loans Scheme

A new system of postgraduate loans for masters degrees in the UK will be introduced for the 2016-17 academic year, providing up to £10,000 a year.

Santander Postgraduate UK/EU Scholarship

Loughborough University is pleased to offer up to six scholarships to the value of £5,000 set against tuition fees for prospective full-time postgraduate taught students funded by the Santander Universities scheme.

Students are expected to meet the following criteria:

  • Be a permanent resident of Belgium, Germany, Poland, Portugal, Spain or the UK and self-funded,

  • Excellent academic record,

  • Clearly demonstrate financial need,

  • The selection committee will also take in to account the personal statement provided on the application form.
