Noorul Islam is currently at Loughborough University London studying for an MA in Media and Creative Industries. Noorul’s received a 100% scholarship as part of the Inspiring Success Programme.
Why Loughborough University London?
I tried applying for jobs but wasn’t particularly set on anything. I went to the Skills Match and they told me about this opportunity to study here which would involve improving my CV and helping me to find out what it was that I wanted to do. Ben Cole did a presentation on the student experience and told me about Loughborough and the campus in London, as well as the 50% and 100% scholarship opportunities.
How did you find the Inspiring Success Programme?
So much fun! It has helped with my confidence and I threw myself in. It has been a great experience. The staff are incredible- every time I see them they ask how I am.
What have been the benefits of studying here under the Inspiring Success Programme?
I wasn’t sure of my direction after university. Through various activities, I have found out who I am as a person and a professional, I now know what I want and how I can get there and it has helped me to plan my next steps.
What advice would you give to someone considering the Inspiring Success Programme?
I would say go for it and take advantage of this amazing opportunity. There are so many activities to become engaged in, and if you don’t engage, you’ll never learn about yourself and what it is that you want. Don’t be embarrassed about anything, as everyone is in the same situation.
Why did you decide to study here?
Diversity is so important. Before studying here I was narrow-minded and thought that as soon as I graduated, I would get a job. I have learned that internships and work experience are valuable as a result and the careers service here provides a great awareness of direction.
What has been your favourite thing about your programme?
The programme has developed students since their arrival. Their experience is incredible and this is applied in lectures through personal and professional experience. This experience and knowledge has shaped my time in Loughborough University London. Studying here is so flexible; lecturers have been so supportive and have let me work around personal commitments and circumstances.
I have also been able to undertake the Postgraduate Employability and Achievement Award (PEAA) which has allowed me to reflect over the entire year, boosting my confidence by allowing me to go through my year and reflect on what I have learned.
What advice would you give to prospective students looking to study at Loughborough University London?
Apply! It’s not just a masters, it’s also the careers advice that comes with it. They equip you with so many skills and the knowledge that is needed and is entirely applicable to a real job in the media industry.
