Talk Sport London event documents ‘shift in power’ in the Global Sports Industry

Some of the rising stars in the sports industry came together to chart the shift in power in the business of sport at Loughborough University London’s Talk Sport London event this February.

Olympians, a former Premier League Footballer, a current WSL Manager, sports broadcasters, and experts from across the business of sport gave their views on the burning topics in the industry. Sue Anstiss MBE helmed a panel looking at the huge commercial potential of women’s sport. She was joined by folk working for IMG, More than Equal and the West Ham United Women’s team Manager Rehanne Skinner. Dr. Russ Seymour hosted a panel of sustainability in sport exports from Edgbaston Stadium, CSM Live Formula E, London Marathon and Think Beyond.

Professor Jo Maher Loughborough’s Pro-Vice Chancellor for Sport was on hand to honour a special panel of Loughborough University London alumni now creating waves in the business of sport.  Professor Maher said: “Talk Sport London was a huge celebration of the impact Loughborough University London is making on the business of sport. The diversity of speakers, diversity of thought, and agitation for change was so refreshing to be part of. It was great to honour our rising stars and I look forward to many more of these events.”

The final panel of the event saw people from Black In Sport and Sports Interactive come together to form a special panel on Allyship in the business of sport. Olympian Abigail Irozuru and former Premier League footballer Marcus Gayle were joined by EDI consultants and staff from the Professional Game association to discuss how allyship in the business of sport can be cultivated to create a better sports industry.

Ladi Ogunmekan, CEO of Black In Sport (BIS) commented: “It was a real privilege to work with the Future Space team and Sports Interactive on this panel. Creating trust, building real pathways and shifting power is what BIS has been all about since we started.  We can’t wait for the next collaboration.”

Talk Sport London is the sister event to the Talk Sport Careers Fair that happened at the start of February on Loughborough’s East Midlands Campus. The two events showcase Loughborough’s diversity of activity in the sports industry.
