Some very special Loughborough University London students celebrated scholarship success at the end of 2023 when they received their awards from the local employers sponsoring them.

Sports Interactive (the makers of Football Manager) and West Ham United Community Development Foundation handed over certificates to this year’s awardees Shannon Latouche and Lipa Hoque.

Having started their courses in September the scholarship provides a 100% fee subsidy for its awardees.  Matt Carroll COO of Sports Interactive said: “Investing in local talent is a big part of our success plan here at Sports Interactive.   Our collaboration with Loughborough has already seen us gain new insights and with the sponsoring of the scholarship we can only see this continuing.”

Shannon Latouche from Hackney and one of the awardees said “Joining Loughborough University London has been an excellent experience.  I have already had so many opportunities and connected with so many potential employers.  The support of staff and now meeting the sponsors of our awards really makes me excited about the future.  I would really encourage others to apply.”

Professor Tony Edwards, Dean of Loughborough University London said: “Investing in the talent here in east London is so important to us as a university.  It is great to welcome our new partners and working in tandem with local employers to create real change.  Our east London students bring so much to our community. I am really proud that we have a programme like Inspiring Success that makes such an impact locally.”

Now in its tenth year, the handover of certificates also marked the launch of applications for 2024’s Inspiring Success programme.  The programme was first introduced in 2015 to help local unemployed and underemployed graduates from Hackney, Newham, Waltham Forest and Tower Hamlets progress onto graduate-level employment.

The first stage consists of evening workshop designed to enable local graduates to reflect on their experience, plan their next career steps, and build their network. The second stage offers attendees the opportunity to apply for a 100% tuition fee-paid scholarship to study one of the innovative postgraduate programmes offered at the University’s London campus.

Since its inception in 2015, over 100 people have benefited from the workshops, with more than 40 students now having graduated with a master’s and gone on to work for companies such as the NFL, Google and BT.
