Loughborough University London announce fully funded PhD opportunities for interdisciplinary research

Loughborough University London (LUL) is embarking on a mission to foster cutting-edge interdisciplinary research by appointing seven exceptional PhD candidates for fully funded projects at its dynamic London-based interdisciplinary school.

In line with Loughborough University's (LU) commitment to the "Creating Better Futures. Together" strategy, this initiative aims to address pressing global challenges through bold, creative, and impact-focused interdisciplinary research. The university invites applications from candidates whose proposed research aligns with the diverse disciplines covered by LUL's seven Institutes, spanning international management, diplomacy and international politics, design innovation, media and communications, AI and digital technologies, entrepreneurship, and sports business.

LUL offers a vibrant research culture, fostering a sense of community through mutual support and collaboration. The Doctoral College provides continual opportunities for developing crucial research skills and building networks among peers and research academics.

Aligned with Loughborough University's dedication to building inclusive communities and tackling global challenges, interdisciplinary research plays a pivotal role. Therefore, the university encourages and welcomes interdisciplinary project proposals, with a special emphasis on cross-Institute collaborations.

Prospective candidates will become part of a diverse, international community of doctoral researchers, guided by a distinguished faculty of experienced academic supervisors. To apply, candidates are required to submit a comprehensive 4-page proposal outlining their project's aim, research questions, literature review, and proposed methodology. Successful applicants must also secure a supervisor from the LUL faculty who agrees to oversee their PhD, subject to a competitive selection process, following LU's guidelines for research degree proposals.

Fully funded projects cover both fees and stipends and are available to both UK and international candidates. With an applied research culture, Loughborough University excelled in the Research Excellence Framework (REF) 2021, with 94% of the submitted work deemed top-rated as world-leading or internationally excellent.

Successful Doctoral Researchers will be situated at LUL's exclusive postgraduate-only campus, located within the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, at the heart of London's creative and startup hub. This unique setting offers an inspiring environment for academic growth and innovation. Interested candidates can apply via Loughborough University’s Research Application Webpage.
