Boston Celtics coach gives guest lecture on campus

Boston Celtics Assistant Coach, Jay Larranaga, visited Loughborough University London’s campus yesterday to give an industry insight talk to students and staff as part of the Institute for Sport Business’ leadership series.

Both master’s and research students from across the campus attended the talk, where Coach Larranaga provided a great insight into his career and discussed topics of leadership and innovation in elite sport.

Coach Larranaga’s visit marks the third consecutive year that the Institute for Sport Business has welcomed an NBA coach on to campus to provide an insider’s perspective on working life within the sports sector.

Coach Larranaga is in London this week for the NBA Global Games which takes place at the O2 Arena today (11/01/18). The Boston Celtics with play the Philadelphia 76ers in the league’s eighth regular-season game.

Following the session, Professor James Skinner (Director of the Institute for Sport Business) delivered his inaugural lecture to almost 100 students, staff and guests. Professor Skinner discussed the topic of doping in elite sport and outlined some of the challenges facing the sport business industry. He also highlighted some of the current research being undertaken by the Institute, which seeks to address some of these issues.
