Which industry do you work in?

Education

What is your job role?

Research Associate

What do you love most about your job?

I love the opportunity to make a difference in Health Psychology research, being on the cutting edge of the latest behaviour change research and the opportunity to present my findings around the world.

Why did you want to study a postgraduate programme at Loughborough University?

I always wanted to work in Psychology and knew I needed a postgraduate qualification in order to achieve this goal. I love the ethos at Loughborough University, the competitiveness and Loughborough spirit which made it my first choice for postgraduate study. Loughborough also offers very generous academic and sport scholarships which have been extremely useful!

How has your qualification helped you in your career?

I started on an MSc at Loughborough and through this I met my current supervisor, Professor Cheryl Haslam, who has mentored me through both my MSc and PhD. These qualifications are a necessity in order to work in research, and to fulfil my goal of eventually becoming a Professor.

What did you find the most challenging aspect of your studies?

Group work during my MSc was particularly challenging, however it was also a great opportunity to work with students from a diverse range of backgrounds. Getting the balance with workloads in a group project can often be tricky.

What did you like the most about living in London when you worked in the capital?

I love how well connected London is, from the tube system to the five major airports. Most of my family live in London also, so it was great to be close by.

What is your favourite London spot and why?

It’s hard to decide between Oxford Street, which is great for shopping and Kennington which has a great classy night life. In particular Kensington roof gardens (owned by honorary Loughborough graduate Sir Richard Branson), but don’t try using Richard’s name to jump the queue, it never works!

How has Loughborough University inspired you?

At Loughborough University I have had the opportunity to be mentored by world leading researchers, and coached by some of the world’s best athletics coaches. Without Loughborough I would never have even tried triple jump and I’ve had the opportunity to be inspired by and train with Olympic medallists. Loughborough really is an inspiring place to study.
