Which industry do you work in?

Fast moving consumer goods and food service.

Who is your current employer and what is your job role?

I work for Unilever as the Human Resources Director for their food service business in the UK and Ireland which is called 'Unilever Food Solutions'.

What do you love most about your job?

I love that my job is all about helping people be the best that they can be, which then drives business success. My favourite part is coaching individuals and teams to be better leaders and be able to understand and enhance the impact they have on others and the world around them.

What has been your number one success since graduating from Loughborough University?

I was recently invited to speak at a conference about a model I developed that I believe strongly in and have built through my professional and personal experience. It's a philosophy about getting the most out of work and life. The feedback was fantastic and for me it was a defining moment being able to share something rooted in professional experience but that felt really from within, to a wide audience. It looks like I may even get a book out of it!

How has your degree helped you in your career?

My MSc completely shaped my career, but not in the way I expected! During my MSc I became particularly interested in human resources. This helped me decide that I wanted a career in that area.

What did you find to be the most challenging aspect of your studies?

In most cases going to University is your first time living away from home and being completely in charge of your life and your time. I think it's a learning curve to get to grips with this and to balance the demands of challenging academic deliverables with enjoying the rich social experience that being at University also gives you. You have to be organised, motivated and committed to get the best out of both of these sides of being a student. This is particularly true with postgraduate studies where you need to take a step up.

What do you most like about living in London now that you work in the capital?

I love the diversity and buzz that London brings - it's exciting! There's always so much going on and so many different types of people with a plethora of backgrounds and experiences. I have two little boys now aged 2 and 3. I know some people want to move out of London to bring up children but I really value the experience they get from living in the capital!

Where is your favourite London spot and why?

The South Bank, undoubtedly. There are always exhibitions or installations, the views are amazing along the Thames, and the skateboarders add a vibrancy that you don't find elsewhere. There are plenty of places to get great food and drink too!

What adivce would you give to a postgraduate student moving to London to study on our new campus?

Make the most of being in London. There's so much for everyone to do at every budget so find your niche and enjoy it. Make sure you work hard too though - be the best you can be at your studies as being a Loughborough student is an amazing opportunity and it will be an important step on your journey through life.
