Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park

Loughborough University London is part of the Here East development, a new innovation quarter for East London and the training ground for entrepreneurial talent.

Just a five minute walk away, the Copper Box Arena in a multi-purpose venue. It has an 80-station gym, two exercise-class studios and hosts major sports, entertainment, music and community events, with seating for up to 7,500 spectators.

The Arena is also the new home to the London Lions basketball team. Whether you’re visiting the gym or enjoying a concert, there’s plenty to get involved in. Casual gym use ranges from £3 to £10 per visit and memberships are available on a monthly or yearly basis. 

With its wave-like room, the London Aquatics Centre is one of the best-known sports venues of the London 2012 Games. It has three separate pools: for competition, training and diving. Each is open to swimmers of all abilities, from beginners to Olympic hopefuls, so you can enjoy swimming in the same pool as Olympians and Paralympians.

The venue provides you with stunning views of the Park’s iconic landmarks, including the UK’s tallest sculpture, 115m ArcelorMittal Orbit. Prices start at £3.50 for a swim in the pool, swimming and diving lessons and courses are also available and can be booked online. 

Formerly known as the Olympic Velodrome, the Velopark has four cycling options for you to explore. You can choose from cycling the track in the iconic Velodrome, race on the new one-mile road circuit, tackle the 8km mountain bike trails or try out the remodelled Olympic BMX track.

You can pre-book your visit for an introductory session or just visit the venue and watch the action as a spectator. Prices are varied depending on your option – taster sessions and skills sessions are on offer plus much more – a complete price list is available on the official site. 

The Centre offers 10 tennis courts and two hockey pitches. Programmes are available for those who want to learn or improve their skills. You can either book ahead or simply turn up to use the courts.

The venue has hosted a number of major events including the NEC Wheelchair Tennis Masters and the European Hockey Championships in 2015. Tennis court hire for an hour starts at £8.00 per hour, beginners express tennis lessons can also be booked for six sessions for £42 per person.

The Park’s most iconic building, formally known as the Olympic Stadium, is now one of the world’s best sports and live music event venues. In 2015 it hosted several matches as part of the Rugby World Cup.

It is now the UK's national competition venue for athletics and the new home of West Ham United Football Club.

In 2017 the Stadium will host the IAAF World Athletics Championships.

The Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is right next to Europe’s largest urban shopping and leisure centre, Westfield Stratford City, which is open seven days a week until 9pm each weeknight and Saturday, and from 12noon to 6pm on a Sunday.

There are over 250 shops including Jaeger, Mulberry, Hugo Boss, Armani, Marks & Spencer, and 80 places to eat and drink, from international chains such as Wagamama, Jamie’s Italian and Nando’s to local brands such as Rhythm Kitchen, The Real Greek, Pho and Tap East.

The Centre also includes a 17-screen all-digital cinema and ten-pin bowling. All within a 15 minute walk of the University.

The transformation of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is part of a wider vision to create a series of five interlinking, vibrant neighbourhoods within East London, where business, innovation and creativity take centre stage.
